29june.jpgToday in Rome is the commemoration day of Rome’s saints St Peter and Paul who were 2 apostles who died in martyrdom upon the command of Emperor Nero, back in 258. St Peter’s basilica is named after Paul, and it was built on what was presumedly his burial site.

To mark this special day and also to open the Estate Romana a special evening of music will take place in Piazza del Popolo tonight. A bunch of famous Italian singers will be there, such as Franco Califano, and some TV celebrities such as Paolo Bonolis will take part of it too, only to name a few!

… And while you stay in Rome why not stay in our welcoming hotel ?

An etruscan Necropolis discovered

mondo16.jpgA tomb raider has revealed the existence of probably the most important Etruscan necropolis ever found. The tomb is located in the Parco de Veio, 18 km to the north of Rome, between the Via Cassia and the Via Flaminia, the nearest protected Etruscan area to the capital.

The tomb, which is in an area of the park, which has until now been considered to be of little interest, dates from the seventh century BC. The ceiling is decorated in black, red and brown with the outlines of aquatic and migrating birds, symbols of the passage from life to death, while the walls are decorated with lions, symbols of the underworld .

The tomb was clearly that of a very important person, probably an Etruscan prince and his wife. The sarcophagus is no longer in the tomb but was probably removed several centuries ago. And while in Rome come and stay in our hotel in central Rome .
