Marino and the Sagra dell’Uva

Marino is a small town up in the hills close to Rome in the area well known for its wine, and called Castelli Romani. Our suggestion is that you take a day tour to the Castelli Romani Rome. The wine festival takes place in Marino Rome every year on the first Sunday of October. There are street shows and food is every where for you to taste, and of course, there is … wine ! A very peculiar event takes place in the centre of Marino during the Sagra dell’Uva : the central fountain (Fontana dei Mori) sprinkles wine instead of water.

The fountain was designed and built in the faraway 1632 and represents a 4 turkish slaves on a sea rock that 8 sirens hold. On the column is designed the symbol of the Colonna family from Marino Rome. This opera actually represents the victory of Marcantonio Colonna on the Ottomans, in Lepanto in 1571. In order to commemorate the welcoming he had after the battle the Sagra del Vino, the wine festival is celebrated every year in Marino. The small town is ideal for a day trip and when planning your vacation book our central Rome hotel.
