Rome ’s seaside

Summer has arrived and summer in Rome means unbearable heat at times, so it’s a great idea to take a break from sightseeing by making a visit to one of the many beaches you find near Rome in easy reach and good for a day trip.

Ostia Beach
Be warned, you won’t find breathtaking beaches near Rome like the ones you get in other more remote area of the country, but they are beaches and they’re a blessing during the unmerciful roman summer.

As we hinted above Lazio, the region  where Rome is located, is not the natural choice when it comes to beaches, but with Rome being  a hot city in July and August the Romans have their favorite places to escape for the week end  all within driving distance and which you can reach by public transport too, and many visitors will be happy to take a dip !

Fregene near Rome

An interesting option to visit a beach while in Rome is Ostia. You’ll find it near the ruins of the ancient roman port or Ostia Antica. You can see them during the day and then during the night explore the many clubs along the beach that the romans crown during july and august. To go to Ostia Beach take the train from Piramide station and get off at "stella polare" it’s a 30-minutes trip and the tickets you use to get the subway and the buses are also valid on that train.

Another interesting option for a beach near the eternal city is Fregene. Maybe a less populated than Ostia, was once the favorite place of famous personalities like Federico Fellini or Alberto Moravia. To get there take from Termini the train to Maccarese, and from there a bus that will take you to the beach.

Santa Marinella
If you are a nostalgic of the dolce vita lifestyle and are looking for a cleaner beach, then your option has to be Santa Marinella, where many celebrities -Marlon Brando among them- used to while away summer. To get to Santa Marinella is really easy: just take the train from Termini and get off in the station Santa Marinella. The beach is near the station, and takes about one hour to get there from Rome.

As you can see, to enjoy Rome and everything it has to offer is important to stay in a place with a good location. Hotel Des Artistes and Yes Hotel Rome are two great options to stay in Rome if you want to get the most out of your roman holiday. Both hotels are near the Termini Station, an essential point to go to the beaches and not only !!!
