The Arena di Verona is one of the largest and best preserved Roman amphitheatres anywhere, built in the 1st century AD. Padua (Padova in Italian) is not immediately the most alluring city in northern Italy. It is, however, one of the most ancient, and plentiful evidence remains of its impressive lineage.

Treviso, a charming quiet town with an easy-going air that is also an ideal jumping-off point both for Venice and for the northern Veneto.
